Corsair Flash Voyager (16GB capacity) USB stick Many people have discovered the convenience of carrying a USB memory device for everyday files that they use regularly. CeBIT: Flash drives to fit your wallet |
Small is all well and good, but sometimes tiny flash drives are a nuisance. Where do you keep them handy? Wallet Flash is showing off their custom made credit card sized flash drives. Get them branded however you like, then keep them in a card spot in your wallet. 2GB was the biggest I saw there on the stand, which as far as general business needs go is probably ample space. Apparently the USB plug is double sided too, so the fact the card is pretty wide should never be an issue as you can flip it to get the best fit. They've even got some options with MP3 player built-in, so you can rock out with your phones plugged into your wallet, a kind of pointer for potential thieves. They'll probably be disappointed to find its a wallet, and not your iPod. -Seamus Byrne http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2007/05/cebit_flash_drives_to_fit_your_1.html |

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21657952-2,00.html USIC players already let you take your favourite tunes just about anywhere; now your wallet is set to become home for your music collection. Amid the business gadgets and systems on show at the CeBIT Australia technology show, which opened in Sydney yesterday, one consumer device stood out from the crowd: a credit-card-thin MP3 music player. Available in Australia from July for less than $100, the WalletMP3 is the slimmest in the world and would not cause a bulge in your wallet when placed alongside your credit cards. Previewed at the show by Sydney-based company Walletflash Australia, the super-thin music player can store up to 2GB of music, roughly about 400 songs. Walletflash spokesman Gilad Greenbaum said the system was rugged and durable, and at a weight of a mere 16g would be no extra burden to carry. "It has been really thoroughly tested, in ovens and stress tests, and is very, very tough," Mr Greenbaum said. "In fact, it's even waterproof, so there's nothing stopping you even going swimming with your favourite soundtrack." |

USB flash drives are pretty ubiquitous, and lots of manufacturers are scrambling to figure out ways to differentiate their products from the pack-of-gum-shaped masses (for a great overview, take a look at Dan Costa's USB Key Superguide at the PC Magazine site). Walletex, a company that plans to specialize in "wallet-friendly devices" (as if you couldn't figure that out from the name), showed me one of the more original attempts: The Wallet Flash is a fully functional flash drive that can slip right into a card slot in your wallet. It's also a CES Innovations 2006 Design and Engineering Showcase Honoree, Alon Atsmon, the CEO of Walletex, told us. |

2GB Credit Card Shaped Storage |
Six weeks back I was bitching about the phrase credit card sized. It seems to be the new buzz word for anything that is reasonably compact. Of course, the term should be “Credit Card Sized Footprint”, because my Barclaycard isn’t half an inch thick. So much praise and adulation must go to Walletex for being the first manufacturer on the market to produce a product that truly lives up to this name. |

We've been around the credit card sized USB drive merry-go-round a few times, but unless you're ready to really bulk up your wallet, you're probably not going to slip any of those into your back pocket anytime soon. The times they are a-changin' however, with the Walletex Wallet Flash drive finally nearing the actual thickness of a credit card, sporting USB 2.0, weighing 12 grams, and ranging in capacity from 128MB to 2GB. The cards start at $29. |
